Nearly Sixty People at Youth Pastors Summit

There was a lot of excitement in the air as youth pastors and their spouses from across our Convention met in Cavendish PEI for the annual Youth Pastors Summit late in September. Dr. Lois Mitchell, the guest speaker, grabbed the attention of the crowd with a challenge to Live Simply, Live Justly, and Live Faithfully. Throughout the two day event, the attendees were led in wonderful times of worship by Kurt Parks from Coverdale Baptist, and had opportunity to spend time with the event chaplain, Dr. Bob Berry.
Jody Linkletter Called to Be Full-Time Associate Director

Rev. Dale Stairs, Director of Youth and Family Ministries, is pleased to announce that Mrs. Jody Linkletter has accepted a call to serve as a full-time Associate Director in the Youth and Family Department of our Convention. Jody was invited to serve in this capacity following the completion of an extensive search and interview process during the spring and summer months during which a search committee prayerfully considered many capable and qualified candidates.

Leadership Conference at First Cornwallis

Fifty lay-leaders and facilitators from the Eastern Valley Association gathered at First Cornwallis Baptist Church for an afternoon conference entitled “Leadership Among God’s People.”
The October 5th event was organized by the Christian Education Committee of First Cornwallis with the intent of both encouraging and equipping lay-leaders who serve local churches in various roles.
The opening session of worship featured guest speaker Rev. Jamie MacArthur, Pastor of Christian Training at Birch Cove Baptist in Halifax, while the closing address was brought by Rev. Dale Stairs, Director of Youth and Family for the CABC. Both speakers emphasized God’s calling and the importance of the leader’s personal relationship with Christ.

Sunday Sept 21 2008 was an exciting day for the congregation at Apohaqui Community Church. On that day ACC started ministry in a second location and held its first service at the Hampton Middle School.
The Hampton site will be part of the Apohaqui church under a multi-site model of ministry, but will have its own campus pastor, Tony Reicker. In this way the congregation will operate in two locations.
Senior Pastor Kevin Vincent explained that they chose Hampton because of the distance people were driving to attend the church. “While people are willing to drive to a church that meets their needs, they most definitely prefer finding that church in the community in which they live.”

On Saturday, September 13 2008, Alberton Baptist Church broke ground for a new church building. The new church will replace the existing one, which is too small for the growing congregation located in western PEI.
Pastor Ross Morrison read scripture and shared a brief history of the church. The congregation also offered up prayers of thanksgiving and prayed for the safety of all who will be working at the site.
In addition to congregation members, three contractors, the Mayor of Alberton and their PEI Member of Legislature attended the ceremony.
